Stables are cleaned annually and manure -produced mainly by animals fed with olive leaves- is collected for soil fertilization. It is crucial to use well fermented manure, to avoid spread of pathogens into the soil and consequently to the plants. Manure is usually packed in bags and set to the orchards, where they are placed under the trees’ canopy, right above the roots. This way it is ensured that all nutrients will be at the plants’ disposal for resultant absorption. Some farmers leave the manure into the bags to avoid wind spread and ensure slow release into the soil.
